Counterfeiting and piracy harm society in many ways that are not easily understood. Companies producing genuine products are badly hit when a large market share is going to the counterfeit or pirated product instead. The counterfeits can always undersell the genuine product as no money has been spent on research and development. This has a negative impact on the economy of the country.
