In the UK, a factory producing counterfeit alcohol has been closed down with the seizure of 10,000 litres of fake Vodka and over 35,000 litres of pure alcohol... In the USA, a number of raids have taken place seizing fake luxury goods and clothing products worth hundreds of thousands of dollars... Millions of counterfeit cigarettes have been impounded in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland... Pirated DVDs and CDs have been seized in Russia and Puerto Rico yielding 200,000 and 20,000 discs respectively.
Cases and outcomes include the French Publishers’ Association suing Google, saying that the USA giant has counterfeited their books by digitising them for sale online, without authorisation... In the UK, a man has been jailed for 10 months after being caught unloading 191 boxes of counterfeit goods... In India, two executives working for film distribution companies have been arrested for their involvement in pirating movies.
Policy developments include in the Philippines, amendments to the Intellectual Property code are being sought, to deal with the upsurge in internet piracy in the country. |
