Seizures and discoveries include in Nigeria, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration impounded a huge consignment of fake anti-malarial pharmaceuticals… Similarly, a large seizure of counterfeit pharmaceuticals has taken place in Jordan by the country’s Food and Drug Administration… In India, three containers of fake drugs were impounded at the port of Chennai… In the USA, Customs and Border Protection officers seized a shipment of counterfeit sunglasses worth over $200,000… In Italy, more than 120 tonnes of counterfeit pesticides were uncovered by police, making it the largest seizure of its kind in the EU to date… In the Philippines a large consignment of counterfeit Unilever products has been impounded at a market… Pirated DVDs and CDs have been seized in numerous raids in countries including; India, Malaysia, the Philippines, the USA and the UK.

Cases and outcomes include in the Netherlands the start of a case brought by BREIN, an antipiracy organisation, against the largest torrent indexer on the Internet; Mininova… In the UK, a man has been charged with importing 21.3 million counterfeit cigarettes in the country… Also in the UK, a man has been jailed for two years for selling unlicensed erectile-dysfunction drugs over the internet making him a profit of £3.4 million over three years.

Studies and reports out include one in the UK, which found that seven million people are involved in illegal downloading in the country… Similarly, another study in the UK found that the use of Digital Rights Management increases the likelihood of piracy.
