Seizures and discoveries include in Germany, customs officials impounding fake designer products worth €1.2 million… A number of raids took place across the Middle East seizing more than 800,000 fake HP printer cartridges… In Romania, counterfeit toys and cosmetics were seized in a number of raids… There were a number of successful seizures of counterfeit good in the US, these included 22,000 items in Los Angeles, 100,000 items in New York, and over 20,000 items in Norfolk… A number of larges raids took place seizing pirated DVDs in Malaysia, India and the UK.

Cases and outcomes include a court in Sweden jailing the four men behind the high-profile bit- torrent site The Pirate Bay, sentencing them to a year in jail and ordering them to pay £3 million in damages, however lawyers of the men are seeking a retrial… A man in the US has pleaded guilty to charges related to selling $1 million worth of pirated software on eBay… In the UK, two men have been jailed for five years for smuggling more than 7.2 million counterfeit cigarettes into the country.

Studies and reports out include one from Uganda, showing that more than 500,000 tonnes of counterfeit and substandard goods were seized in the country during the last three years … In the UK, a survey has found that one in four doctors have treated patients for side effects of pharmaceuticals bought online… Dubai customs have seized 39% more trademark infringing products during the first quarter of this year.
