Cases and outcomes include sporting and apparel brand retailer, Nike, filing a lawsuit against two Chinese companies that it said were using its logo illegally… A woman in the US was sentenced to nearly three-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty to trafficking more than $2 million in counterfeit sports apparel and fake luxury goods… In Moscow, four pharmaceutical executives were given suspended sentences after they were found guilty of counterfeiting over 50 brands of medicine.
Policy developments include the Office of the US Trade Representative publishing the details of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement for the first time… In France, a bill was introduced providing for punshment of illegal downloaders by cutting off their internet access, however in a vote legislators rejected the bill.
