Police also arrested 28 people during the raid… In France, the customs service seized 10 tons of counterfeit chocolates. Lab tests on the 33,000 boxes of fake Ferrero Rochers found they were low quality, but harmless… 200,000 DVDs were seized in Canada after a two-month operation… Similarly, in the US hundreds of thousands of DVDs and CDs were seized in a raid.

include the conviction of 11 people in China, reportedly involved in the largest software counterfeiting operation ever. The men were given sentences of between 18 months and six and a half years, and were estimated to have made more than $2 billion from the operation… A man in the UK has been ordered to pay £1 million after being found guilty of smuggling over eight million counterfeit cigarettes into the country.

include one from China finding that in the first 11 months of 2008 law enforcement agencies seized over 7.35 billion counterfeit cigarettes in the country… In Saudi Arabia, it has been reported that 80 percent of electronic goods and 50 percent of tyres sold are fake… An investigation found that an estimated eight million counterfeit pharmaceuticals have found their way to patients through the UK’s National Health Service. |
