Cases and outcomes
last week include a man in the US being sentenced to 21 months in federal prison after admitting recording two films in a theatre… The North American anime distributor FUNimation Productions is suing a group of related companies in Southern California for allegedly selling counterfeit DVDs of its licensed anime on a website… Six people have been arrested on suspicion of possessing, manufacturing and selling more than 8,000 CDs and DVDs… Six people in the US have been indicted for their alleged roles in trafficking counterfeit luxury brand goods including Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Versace.
Studies and reports out last week include one that found that the government of Fiji lost an average of $16.2 million in tax annually to pirated DVDs alone.
