Seizures reported last week include a large number of various fake goods with the Lacoste brand name, in the Philippines… In India counterfeit mobile phone equipment has been seized including handsets, batteries and cases… Over 100,000 bottles of counterfeit French red wine and spirits from brands such as Johnny Walker have been seized in Taiwan… A huge raid of various counterfeit goods has taken place in the US, reportedly seizing more than $10 million worth of fakes… Pirated DVD's and CD’s have been found in a number of raids in Hong Kong, India, the Netherlands, the UK and the US… In Dubai customs have seized 5 million sexual dysfunction drugs.
Cases and Outcomes reported last week include the recording artist Prince demanding that that video sharing website YouTube removes clips of his recent concerts from its site… In the US 21 people have been charged with smuggling fake Nike trainers from China into the US… Also in the US a Hawaiian man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for distributing and selling descramblers which allowed people to pirate cable TV.
Technologies reported last week include a new way in which counterfeit drugs can be identified in minutes rather than hours or days, and can be taken from just a scraping of the pill rather than crushing the whole tablet.
