Seizures reported include various counterfeit goods worth more than $100,000 in the US… Over 11 million fake cosmetic products have reportedly been seized in China… Seizures of pirated movies and music have taken place in Malaysia, South Africa and the US… Counterfeit cigarettes have been seized in Malaysia and the UK.

Cases and Outcomes reported recently include L'Oreal filing complaints in five European countries against EBay Inc. over the sale of allegedly counterfeit goods under the world's largest cosmetics maker's brand name. Similarly another action is threatened against EBay Inc. by PPR, the French conglomerate that owns Gucci, Bottega Veneta and several other luxury goods brands… A Chinese court has ordered a seller of pirated DVDs to pay Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. and five other Hollywood film studios a total of $25,500. Another Chinese court has sentenced a businessman to three and a half years in prison for selling counterfeit diabetes test kits… A US medicine company has pleaded guilty to conspiring to traffic counterfeit prescription drugs and sell them in the Untied States.

Policy developments reported include the Swedish government recommending that internet service providers take more responsibility for removing copyright infringing content from their networks… In India the mobile phone industry is urging the government to formulate laws to protect consumers against fake and dangerous handsets.

Studies and Reports out include one by the European Union which finds that 2.5 million fake medicines were seized in 2006, five times the number in 2005.
