Seizures and discoveries include in Sharjah, UAE, 14,000 counterfeit construction tools of brand name Stanley impounded... In Croatia, police have made a massive seizure of 46,000 bottles of counterfeit perfume headed for France worth $1.2 million... Similarly, in Romania, over 78,000 glass containers inscribed with various brand names including Dolce Gabbana, Clinique and Gucci were seized, suspected of being counterfeit... A factory producing large quantities of fake Cialis and Viagra pills was shut down in Israel... Large quantities of counterfeit cigarettes were seized in a number of countries including Ireland, the Netherlands and the UK... Two massive seizures of pirated DVDs and equipment took place on Penang Island in Malaysia worth millions of dollars.

Cases and outcomes include a court in Germany ruling against Switzerland-based RapidShare, on a case brought by a number of major publishers for allowing pirated versions of their books to be made publicly available through the website... Two large counterfeiting syndicates were shut down in the US and UK. 10 people were charged in Seattle for running a multimillion-dollar fake luxury goods ring, and 8 men were jailed in the UK for a massive counterfeit currency operation.

Studies and reports out include a new study by Pfizer looking at counterfeit pharmaceuticals; it found that one in five people questioned admitted buying prescription-only medicines without a prescription, with Germany and Italy being the worst offenders.
