Seizures and discoveries include a massive coordinated operation against counterfeit pharmaceutical manufacturers by Interpol, which yielded 20 million packs of counterfeit medicine and 33 arrests... Similarly in Nigeria, a large consignment of counterfeit malaria drugs was impounded at the international airport... In Bulgaria 2.5 tonnes of counterfeit washing detergent was seized... In the US, $600,000 worth of counterfeit clothes were seized and will be sent to aid the ongoing relief effort in Haiti... In Canada, fake luxury goods worth C$5 million was seized in a number of raids... Large numbers of counterfeit cigarettes were seized in Greece, the UK and Ireland yielding 10 million, 4 million and 750,000 cigarettes respectively.

Cases and outcomes include in the UK, the court of appeal has gone to Europe’s highest court to rule on whether UK authorities can seize counterfeit goods passing through the country... Also in the UK, a man has been sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to importing and selling electronic devices allowing Nintendo DS consoles to play pirated games.

Studies and reports out include one by the Grocery Manufacturers Association who found that counterfeiting of food and consumer products costs industry $10-$15 billion per year... The interior minister of Pakistan has said that 50 percent of the medicines in the country are substandard and spurious... Work by British, Swedish and American researchers has found that taking internet drugs can kill and bypassing health systems can leave life-threatening problems undiagnosed.
